Jacksonville Chevrolet Shoppers Quick Look - Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
The 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD is a serious full-size work truck that picks up where its Silverado 1500 sibling leaves off. This capable heavy-duty pickup is the go-to truck that Jacksonville Chevrolet shoppers turn to when they want to tow and haul the heaviest loads. But the 2500HD has a gentler side, too. The cabin is comfortable and the upper High Country trim includes amenities like leather upholstery.
New for 2018, the Silverado 2500HD WT (work truck) trim gets a standard six-speaker stereo system with the MyLink 7-inch touchscreen. Also standard is a rearview camera. The tire pressure monitoring system now comes with Tire Fill Alert, which honks the horn to alert the driver when the correct tire pressure has been achieved.
The Silverado 2500HD comes in three cab styles. Regular cabs have an 8-foot bed (long box), while double cabs and crew cabs can also get the 6-foot, 6-inch standard box. Four trim levels are available: WT, LT, LTZ, and High Country.
The 2500HD is powered by a standard 6.0-liter V8 engine that produces 360 horsepower and 380 lb.-ft. of torque, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Towing capacity for this engine is 13,000 pounds. The optional turbocharged 6.6-liter diesel V8 churns out 445 hp and 910 lb.-ft. of twist, connected to an Allison six-speed automatic gearbox. This block has the power to tow up to 14,500 pounds.
The reviewers at Kelley Blue Book had words of praise for the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD, writing: “If you’re looking for big pulling power in a full-size heavy-duty truck featuring somewhat reserved styling and a strong history of durability, the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD and 3500 HD trucks are sure to please.”
The 2500’s standard rear-wheel-drive system supplies great traction, but those who require extreme grip to drive over slippery road surfaces will want to opt for four-wheel drive. The optional Z71 off-road package is perfect for everyone who drives their pickup off the beaten path. It comes with 18-inch wheels, all-terrain tires, underbody shielding, brawnier shocks, a front stabilizer bar, a more rugged suspension and hill descent control.
The Silverado 2500HD sports a classic design that never goes out of style. Those looking for an edgier look can choose the Z71 Midnight Edition appearance package, which comes with black 18-inch wheels, a black grille, black bumpers, Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac off-road tires, black Chevy bowtie emblems, special Z71 badging and a spray-in bedliner.
Passengers will enjoy staying connected to the internet, thanks to the 4G Wi-Fi hotspot that comes with the standard MyLink system. Those who want the utmost in comfort features can choose the High Country trim, which includes ventilated front seats and premium leather upholstery. The High Country also includes a Bose stereo system, which produces crisp and accurate sound. Kids will stay busy on trips, thanks to the optional entertainment setup for the back seats.
OnStar helps keep the driver and passengers safe, with round the clock emergency assistance. The available Driver Alert package adds driver assist features like departure warning, a vibrating safety seat and forward collision alert.
