Out With the New, In With the Old: A Closer Look at the Exterior Design

When the 2027 Silverado 1500 was seen on city streets, what we saw may come as a surprise to some: an old-school body style. Outfitted in camouflage, the Silverado test truck features a regular cab design, which is currently offered in the 2026 Silverado lineup. It’s expected that the Chevy will continue to offer the longer bed option, measuring at a little over eight feet, in 2027.

A closer look at the test Silverado Work Truck revealed upgraded LED daytime running lights, a redesigned grille, and sharper lines and functional touches to improve overall efficiency.

But don’t worry, it looks like some things are set to stay the same! The Silverado’s signature steel wheels were easily spotted on the camouflaged ride, along with the iconic Chevy bow-tie logo–hidden, of course, but we can assume.

A Revamped Powertrain Lineup

The 2026 Chevy Silverado lineup currently offers four engines with various power and performance capabilities.

TurboMax

  • 310 horsepower
  • 430 lb-ft of torque
  • 8-speed automatic transmission

5.3L EcoTec3 V8

  • 355 horsepower
  • 383 lb-ft of torque
  • 10-speed automatic transmission

6.2L EcoTec3 V8

  • 420 horsepower
  • 460 b-ft of torque
  • 10-speed automatic transmission

Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel

  • 305 horsepower
  • 495 lb-ft of torque
  • 10-speed automatic transmission

But the question on everyone’s mind is which powertrain options will stay, and which will move aside to make room for something new?

According to GM Authority, Chevy will carry over the turbocharged 2.7-liter I4 L3B, also known as the TurboMax, as the base engine into 2027. The 2027 Chevy Silverado Duramax engine has remained a fan favorite among diesel drivers, so it will join the base engine in the 2027 powertrain lineup.

While the base and diesel engines remain unchanged, the same can’t be said for the V8 engines on the list.

It is expected that the next generation of Small Block V8s will enter the arena, with the 5.3-liter EcoTec expected to be replaced by a new 5.7-liter V8 alternative. Details are scarce right now, but we hope to see great things from this next era of the Small Block V8.

As for the 6.2-liter V8, start to prepare your goodbyes. Initial rumors suggested that the engine would be replaced by a larger 6.6-liter option, but the latest reports indicate it may land at 6.7 liters. The truth will reveal itself in time, so make sure to stay up to date on our Team Chevrolet blog!

Bigger, Better Tech…We Hope

Unfortunately, not much has been said when it comes to the interior design and technology in the 2027 Silverado. The current lineup features a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 13.4-inch touchscreen on higher trims, but we expect those screens to get bigger in the new models.

Rest assured that some of the features we’ve come to know and love in the 2026 Silverado models will carry over into 2027, including USB-C ports in both rows, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and at least one wireless charging pad.
